It's pretty obvious that the new year makes a lot of people think hard about getting healthier and losing weight. You can't watch tv or surf the web without seeing some type of advertisement for a gym or a new weightloss product right now. We talked about goal setting in Monday's post, and I definitely fit in with the crowd desiring to get healthier and lose weight. Green smoothies are a great way to do that, and I'm going to try and drink a few green smoothies a week to help me achieve my goals. This recipe is a great one for losing weight and the fruit helps hide the 2 cups of kale. It's a great way to sneak fruits and vegetables into your family as well! I got my Blendtec a few months ago and I have to say it's been a life changer in the smoothie making department. Having a setting that makes a perfect smoothie every time and can grind basically everything is pretty helpful.  I know everyone seems to sing praises about the Blendtec, but it's well deserved (and no, we aren't sponsored by them)!

We hope that your last night of 2014 is amazing, and that you get to spend it with your loved ones! We have big plans for 2015 and can't wait to share them all with you! We will be taking tomorrow off, but look for Friday Favorites on Friday!

Winter Wonderland

Outfit Details

Booties: Busy Biddy Boutique  | Leggings: Nordstrom, also similar (here) | Necklace: JCrew factory, similar (here) | Shirt: Target (old), similar (here) |Bag: Kate Spade (waited and got mine in the secret sale) | Jacket: Nordstrom, no longer available, similar (here)

It's been snowing like crazy here, it's been so pretty and fun! My husband agreed to get me these adorable leggings for Christmas, and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. They are super eye catching and sparkly! I got them in the Brass Pond section of Nordstrom for $30.00 (for some reason the gold ones I have are not online so I linked to the silver version instead). My Kate Spade cross body bag was also a Christmas present, and is exactly what I have been looking for! I had my eye on something similar so when this one went on sale in the Kate Spade Secret Sale last month I snatched it up for $70.00 (Regularly $178.00)!! What are your favorite Christmas presents you were given (or gifted yourself)?

How to Actually Accomplish Your Goals in 2015

I love setting goals. Unfortunately my goals don't always love me back.

I don't know about you, but goal wise, 2104 was a pretty bad year. Yesterday I was looking through the goals I had set for 2014, and I realized I only accomplished one goal from my list. One goal out of twelve. It was pretty depressing, but it gave me resolve to make sure my goals for 2015 actually come true. 2015 is going to be different. Here are 7 tricks that should help all of us to make sure 2015 is not a repeat of my 2014 in the goal department.

1. Take Time to Set Goals:
I'm sure its easy for most of us to make a list of things we want to accomplish. It would probably take most people about a minute. The trouble with that approach to goal making is that you aren't taking the time to really think about why the goals on your list are important and if they are realistic. Ensure your goals are achievable and within the realms of reality so the same goals you feel so excited about now don't become demotivating later on.

2. Write Down Your Goals:
Studies have proven that a person is much more likely to accomplish their goals if they write them down. Write down how you will know you have reached your goal, and when you would like to achieve the goal by. Write your goals in terms of what you want, not what you don't want. Example: "I want to be able to fit into my wedding dress again", rather than " I don't want to be fat anymore."

3. Tell Someone About Your Goals:
Sometimes it's a lot easier to accomplish our goals when there is another person beyond ourselves holding us accountable. Danica and Skyler are great people to talk to about my weight loss goals because they help hold me accountable and are great at 'gently' guiding me towards healthy choices. When you know that you will have to tell someone that you have been sidetracked in achieving your goal, it makes it a lot less likely that you will become sidetracked to begin with.

4. Break Your Goal Down.
Alot of times the goals we are setting are very large goals that are made up of tons of smaller components. For example the goal to lose weight has a lot to it. How are you going to lose weight? Breaking down your large goal helps you to be more specific. Write down your smaller goals and try to set dates to have those accomplished by. Having smaller goals under our large goals makes the large goal easier and gives us a feeling of success along the way. If your goal is to lose 30 pounds, but  it takes a long time, you could get discouraged and quit. But if you have smaller goals like working out 4 times a week or running a 5k or a half marathon, and you meet those small goals, it will help you to keep working for the 30 pounds even if it takes awhile.

5. Give Up the Need for Immediate Results.
One of the drawbacks of accomplishing goals is that unless you developed good habits while working towards accomplishing your goal, you will end up having to accomplish that same goal the next year. If you do a fad diet and lose 20 pounds really quick, but never got into a habit of eating healthy and working out, the likelihood is that you will be trying to lose 20 pounds the next year as well. Change your mindset that you have to see results right away. True progress takes time.

6. Commit to Yourself.
There's a quote out there that says,"It's funny how day by day, nothing changes, but when you look back everything is different." One year from now you will be one year older no matter what. What can you do today that will make looking back to today feel different and really satisfying? Commit to yourself now, and then recommit if you have a setback.

7. Celebrate Your Accomplishments.
As far as I'm concerned, life is meant to be celebrated. Life is really hard, and if something good happens it deserves to be recognized. Recognize the success you are having as you work towards your goals and celebrate them along the way.

Christmas Morning Cinnamon Rolls

Recipe

Ingredients
Dough:
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 Tbs butter, cut into chunks
  • 3 1/4-3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package instant or 'rapid rise' yeast (about 2 1/4 tsp)
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg

Filling:
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 Tbs ground cinnamon
Icing:
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbs melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1-2 Tbs milk
Directions
Dough:
  1. Place milk and 4 Tbs butter in a microwave safe bowl. Heat on high for 1 minute 30 seconds. Butter should be at least partially melted. Stir and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl whisk together 2 cups flour, yeast, white sugar, and salt.
  3. When milk mixture has cooled to a warm temperature, add it to the four mixture along with the egg while the beater is running. Beat until well combined, about 1 minute.
  4. Switch to a dough hook if using a stand mixer. Add remaining flour only until dough barely leaves the sides of the bowl. It should be very soft and slightly sticky. Continue to let the dough knead for 5 minutes. If you are doing it by hand lay on a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes by hand.
  5. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and let rest for about 10 minutes while you make the filling.

Filling:
  1. Make sure butter is softened. Once softened, mix with brown sugar and cinnamon and set aside.
Assembly:
  1. Roll dough into a rectangle.
  2. Spread brown sugar mixture over the surface and use the back of a spoon to spread around.
  3. Roll up the longer side of the rectangle and pinch edges closed.
  4. Cut the roll into 12 equal pieces using floss as shown above (this is the coolest trick for cutting dough).
  5. Place in a 9x13 pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray.
  6. Cover pan with a towel and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees while the rolls are rising.
  7. When the rolls are done rising, bake for 15-20 minutes or until light golden brown.
  8. As soon as you take the rolls out of the oven, spread with the prepared frosting.
  9. Enjoy!
Cinnamon rolls are one of my favorite Christmas traditions. I'm convinced there is nothing better than a steaming cinnamon roll fresh out of the oven. This recipe is my favorite recipe I have found so far. It's basically heaven in a bite, and guaranteed to make everyone happy on Christmas morning (just in case your presents fall short;)) This recipe has minimal rising time so its a relatively easy make for a morning when you don't have hours to let your dough rise. I found this recipe from Our Best Bites which happens to be my favorite place to get bread type recipes! After years of trying out their recipes, and every single recipe turning out perfect, I'm convinced they know their stuff! This is sure to be a hit come Thursday morning! Enjoy!

Friday Favorites

My favorites this week are pretty random. We have been doing Christmas themed favorites as of late, but ironically I only have one Christmas favorite now that it is the week before Christmas. I haven't really been able to channel the Christmas spirit this year for a number of reasons, but when I watch this video it helps me to feel the spirit of Christmas at least a little. Watch it, you won't regret it.
This Shonda Rhimes speech could be my favorite commencement speech ever. It says about a million truths that a lot of people are too scared to say out loud, and I love every piece of it. This Jessie J song is my jam at the moment. I love the message.

The rest of my favorites are pretty great as well. I recently got this contour kit from Smashbox, and it has pretty much changed the way I do makeup. These shoes are on my want list and look so comfy, and this candle..well this candle is basically heaven in a jar.

Today we are so excited to share our first sister shoot! We were lucky enough to work with the fabulous Roxana B Photography! This shoot was so much fun! We take each other's pictures so we never get to be in front of the lens together. Danica and I have very different styles so we thought it would be fun to share what we would each wear to a holiday party. I'm all about heels and red lipstick, while Danica prefers a more laid back, but still festive look!
