Tassel Banner/Garland DIY

As mentioned here, I'm throwing a baby shower for one of my good friends from work. I've been seeing tassel banners (garlands) all over Pinterest so I decided to try my hand at making one for the shower. I made one this weekend and captured all the steps so now you can make your own too. Btw..these go for over $30 on Etsy so I'm saving you a lot of money:)
tissue paper
clips, clothespins, paperclips, or similar
ribbon or twine
Lay out your tissue paper flat. You can either layer with the same or different color sheets, or just use one color sheet. I used three sheets, all the same color. If you use more than 3 sheets your tassel may end up too large, so stick to three sheets.
Fold the tissue paper in half width-wise (left to right as pictured). Clip it so it stays in place while you are cutting the strips.
Using the scissors, cut your tissue paper into strips, thick or thin, leaving about an inch and a half at the top.
Cut until you reach the other end.  Unfold your paper, one set at a time, to lay flat.
Gently roll the paper, starting at one end to the other. Detangle the strips as you go, as folding will be more difficult if you don't.
You will end up with what looks like a handle. Twist the 'handle' to make it tight.
 Fold the 'handle' in half.
Tie it tightly using your ribbon or twine.
String the tassels through your ribbon or twine in whatever pattern you want.
And there you have it, your very own, cheap version of the super trendy tassel banner (garland).

  1. Oh my gosh, pinning this now! I want these for Mia's birthday (that's not until December, ha!) I can't even believe how much the cost on etsy.... highway robbery! (which I totally would have shelled out the money for, hahaha!) Thank you for this tutorial!

    1. No problem! It's super easy to do, and the result is soooo cute!
